Grupo Valdecuevas inaugurated this Thursday, 28 May, a new 59.400 kWp photovoltaic installation for self-consumption at its oil mill in Medina de Rioseco, Valladolid. This new installation of 180 photovoltaic modules will make it possible to take advantage of solar radiation and convert it into electrical energy, reducing the plant’s energy expenditure by 34% and minimizing its carbon footprint.<\/p>\n
According to Javier Mart\u00edn, CEO of Valdecuevas: \u201cWe decided to invest in a photovoltaic system because solar energy, in addition to not generating polluting emissions, does not produce waste, its impact on the landscape is minimal as it is integrated into the structures and, most important, it is sustainable \u201d.<\/p>\n
Valdecuevas has integrated sustainability into its strategic approach since its inception. “Our raw material comes directly from nature, so taking care of the environment is one of our main concerns,” says Mart\u00edn. This new solar photovoltaic system has been added to other circular economy and waste management initiatives previously implemented by the Group. Since 2016, Valdecuevas has finished the cycle of waste management from its production process through a biomass boiler that uses olives stone as fuel and the production of its own fertilizer with the composting of the alperujo -waste produced in oil extraction-.<\/p>\n
Grupo Valdecuevas produces Extra Virgin Olive Oil from olives from its own olive grove. The 150-hectare farm is located in a moor 850 metres above sea level in the town of Medina de Rioseco, in Valladolid. The proximity of the mill, located on the farm itself, allows the extraction process to be carried out in a short period of time, obtaining a quality product while reducing the environmental impact.<\/p>\n
